European bourses inch lower on profit taking

The latest rally in European stock markets paused on Thursday as higher oil prices provided the catalyst for investors to take some profits.

The FTSE Eurofirst 300 ended 0.4 per cent lower at 1,224.74, as mining stocks and retailers – primarily UK stocks – weighed on the pan-European index.
