IAEA chief ready to serve another term

It was the bitter diplomatic wrangling preceding the 2003 Iraq war that catapulted a little-known Egyptian diplomat from an obscure United Nations agency into the international spotlight.

Mohamed ElBaradei, director-general of the International Atomic Energy Agency, has stayed there since. Controversies over the nuclear programmes of Iran and North Korea and the uncovering of a nuclear smuggling network have kept him and his agency in the headlines.
