I am no fan of motor racing and I fail to see the thrill in sitting around for hours to watch a car zipping by from time to time.

So it seemed odd to me that the city-state of Abu Dhabi has been consumed for months with its staging of a Formula One grand prix for the first time, considering it a significant step in its emergence on the global stage.
