Low coffee prices leave Kenyans feeling bitter

James Kabui grabs a 50g tin of Nescafé from a dustyshelf in his small shop andtheatrically displays the 143-shilling ($1.77, €1.46, £1.00) price. Surrounded by a handfulof coffee farmers, he wants to make a point.

"Do people here drink it? No! They cannot affordthe damn thing, and it's just 50g!" he says. "We are the growers but we cannot afford to buy it for reasons we don't know."
