Saudi Arabia has launched air strikes against rebels in northern Yemen in retaliation for an attack on security forces, an adviser to the Saudi government said on Thursday.

Fighter jets began the bombing campaign across the border on Wednesday afternoon after a border guard was killed and 11 wounded by gunmen who had crossed from Yemen, said the adviser, who did not want to be identified.
