Winning Wii seeks to raise its game

Three years ago, some people in the video games industry thought Nintendo was finished.

Sales of its GameCube had lagged behind the rival PlayStation 2 and Xbox in the last generation of games consoles. Worse, its two main competitors were now deep-pocketed global giants - Sony and Microsoft - and Sony had invaded Nintendo's niche of handheld gaming with its PlayStation Portable machine.
