Discounting hurts French Connection

French Connection reported its first loss in more than a decade and scrapped its dividend as the fashion retailer struggled to keep up with ferocious discounting by its US competitors.

Underlying losses were worse than analysts had been expecting at £5.5m in the year to January and management warned it was preparing for another difficult year.
