Switzerland to ease tax tensions with Italy

Switzerland on Wednesday said it would create a special inter-ministerial group to ease escalating tensions with Italy over bank secrecy and tax evasion, after recriminations from the two countries over which side was responsible for breaking off talks on an essential new tax treaty.

A deal would allow Rome to benefit from Bern’s decision last March to dilute bank secrecy and offer greater transparency in pursuing tax dodgers.
