Imperial runs foul of Russian watchdog

The prospects for Imperial Energyin Russia are in doubt after the head of Russia's environmental watchdog said he had uncovered violations in the way the Aim-listed oil explorer reported its reserves.

Oleg Mitvol, the Russian official who led the government action against Royal Dutch Shell's Sakhalin venture, said he would recommend Imperial's licences be withdrawn, leading to a new probe into the company's resource base.
