Max appoints new chief

Max Petroleum, the Kazakhstan-based oil and gas group, yesterday appointed Mark Johnson as chief executive three months after firing its previous CEO and six other employees.

The Aim-listed company said Mr Johnson, who has 26 years' experience in the oil and gas sector including stints with British Gas and Chevron, would take over this month. Jim Jeffs, currently executive chairman of Max Petroleum, will become non-executive chairman.
