Research: Green sky thinking to unlock terrestrial secrets

The search for new sources of clean energy is stimulating much innovative thinking and “green skies” research among the world’s scientists and engineers. Most projects depend on expensive high-tech equipment, although a few are within the grasp of people in poor countries.

Some of the researchers are biologists, developing organisms that can produce biofuels. Others are physicists, making superconducting cables that conduct electricity without losing energy through waste heat.
