Malaysia’s biggest political party on Thursday voted unanimously to reform its internal election process after Najib Razak, the prime minister, warned it to clean up its corrupt and elitist image or risk losing power to the resurgent opposition.
However, his attempt to orchestrate a fresh start for the United Malays National Organisation was undermined by turmoil in its biggest coalition partner, whose leader refused to step down in spite of losing a vote of confidence.
