JPMorgan feels stress of being in ‘limbo-land’

In the midst of a virulent financial crisis that has called into question the raison d’etre of many “universal banks”, JPMorgan Chase has reminded the markets of the merit of being a broad-based financial institution.

The US bank’s first-quarter results, reported on Thursday, were afflicted by many of the ills that stem from being exposed to ailing domestic consumers and companies and having to absorb the troubled regional lender Washington Mutual.
