New age of train offers route out of recession

The perfect technology to benefit from government efforts to stimulate their economies out of the current crisis would probably soak up considerable labour from a depressed construction industry, provide a long-term economic boost when completed and offer green benefits to boot.

It is consequently no surprise that high-speed passenger rail lines – labour-intensive to build, able to boost the economies of the places they serve and to lure passengers out of cars and aircraft – are featuring in many governments’ stimulus packages.
