Holcim cost cuts hold profit steady

Holcim, the Swiss cement group, yesterday revealed the impact of cost cuts and productivity improvements, as third-quarter earnings of SFr673m ($667m) beat market expectations.

Profits, boosted by gains from selling carbon trading rights and disposal proceeds, were maintained at last year's level, in spite of an almost 18 per cent drop in turnover.
