CNOOC goes on the defensive as heat rises

CNOOC's management is beginning to feel the heat - and not just because of the summer baking Beijing.

In the Chinese oil company's air-conditioned headquarters, a small group of executives led by the chief executive Fu Chengyu are racing against the clock to determine the future of CNOOC's daring bid for its US rival Unocal.
