Countries to sign up for safer shipping

More than three years after the US began a campaign to persuade other countries to secure container traffic against terrorist tampering, most of the world is preparing to endorse new guidelines to make global trade safer.

The agreement, due to be approved on Friday by the 165 member nations of the World Customs Organisation in Brussels, lays out a new global standard built on a series of innovations introduced in the US following the September 11 attacks.
