Residents of West London knew that the purpose-built Chiswick Park development was going to be different, because the lake was dug, the site landscaped and trees planted before work stated on the buildings.

The decision to design a great place to work from scratch, rather than bolt it on later, arose from research into social and business trends by Stanhope and the Richard Rogers Partnership, the developers and architects.
