Darling likely to reject plea for jobs subsidy

Alistair Darling is expected to reject calls, reiterated on Wednesday by employers and unions, for a wide-ranging Budget subsidy for short-time working.

The Trades Union Congress, EEF manufacturers’ organisation, British Chambers of Commerce and Federation of Small Businesses issued a joint lobbying call to the chancellor for a temporary UK-wide short-time working agreement.
