Bush camp sees Bolton UN move as blow to Democrats

In the 2004 election campaign, the architects of George W. Bush's re-election bid seized on John Kerry's appeals for a multilateralist foreign policy to paint the Republicans as the party of the US national interest, and the Democrats as willing to sign over security to the international community.

The nomination of John Bolton as the next US ambassador to the United Nations promises to play to those public prejudices at home in the US.
