Japanese premier’s fumbles leave LDP vulnerable

When Japan’s Liberal Democrats chose Taro Aso as leader and prime minister in September, the charismatic comics fan looked just the man to lead the long-ruling party into a pivotal election.

But that was before Mr Aso angered doctors, parents and the aged, mispronounced words in speeches and drew fire for inconsistent economic policy amid a global financial crisis.
