Lib Dem policies may no longer be affordable

Nick Clegg on Wednesday challenged the Liberal Democrats to accept that some of their most popular policies may no longer be affordable, as he staked a claim to be the most “honest” leader in an era of constrained public spending .

The scrapping of university tuition fees and free personal care for the elderly may be among policies downgraded to “aspirations” as the party draws up a costed election manifesto.
