Islamabad on Wednesday welcomed Barack Obama’s victory as it prepared to work with a new US administration that is widely expected to review its ties with Pakistan.

“We welcome president Obama’s victory and hope we can continue our close relationship” a foreign ministry official said minutes after John McCain, the Republican presidential candidate conceded defeat.
