Sir, The proposal by Gerhard Schröder, the German chancellor, for a review of transatlantic relations, particularly those conducted through Nato, should be welcomed by all ("Germany suggests a far-reaching Nato review", Ft.com February 13). There has been far too much secrecy and lack of open debate about developments at Nato headquarters, something that has hardly changed since the end of the cold war.
