Autonomy pays $500m for larger Verity

Autonomy, the search software company, took a step into the big league yesterday when it announced a $500m (£282m) cash deal to buy larger US rival Verity.

The Cambridge-based company will pay $13.50 for every Verity share, a 30 per cent premium on the closing share price on Thursday.
