Ecuador breaks ties with Colombia over Farc incursion

Ecuador broke off diplomatic ties with Colombia yesterday after a weekend raid in which Colombian forces crossed its borders in pursuit of guerrillas from the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (Farc).

The raid, in which Raul Reyes, a Farc commander was killed, has sparked a widening diplomatic row. Hugo Chávez, Venezuela's president, and Rafael Correa, Ecuador's president, have both posted troops along the Colombian border.
