Vivendi case opens in New York court

A New York court has begun considering a class action lawsuit against Vivendi with investors alleging they were given misleading financial information by the French entertainment group.

The case is set to pick over a painful period when a string of large and daring acquisitions masterminded by Jean-Marie Messier, former chief executive, took the group to the brink of bankruptcy.
