Anti-terror control tactic under review

The use of “control orders” to restrict the movement of people suspected of terrorist activity could be halted after Alan Johnson, the home secretary, ordered a fundamental review of the practice.

The review – to be carried out by Lord Carlile, the independent watchdog for UK terror laws – has been prompted by a Law Lords judgment in June, which ruled that the Home Office could no longer rely on secret evidence to obtain the orders.
