Much of the crowd cheering horses home at the Club Hípico de Santiago last Thursday evening did not win any money when Plata (Spanish for silver) finished in first place.

But the spectators – guests of a Chilean copper group – still went home winners, having seen the value of their businesses hit record levels earlier in the day.
