Trichet in attack on German wage deal

Germany’s move to create “unnecessary minimum wages” in the services sector will act as a “brake on employment”, the European Central Bank president warned on Wednesday.

Jean-Claude Trichet’s unusual intervention came after competitors to Deutsche Post, the former monopoly, announced job cuts in response to Berlin’s imposition of a minimum wage for postal services last week.
