Greek minister aims to tame deficit

Greece must crack down on tax evasion and make deep spending cuts in next year’s budget in order to stem a runaway deficit and public debt, its new centre-left finance minister warned on Friday.

“This is not business as usual: we are in an emergency situation on the fiscal side,” George Papaconstantinou said in an interview with the Financial Times.
