Archives reveal BBC shared its fee

Archival evidence has provided the government with fresh ammunition in its argument with the BBC over sharing the £3.6bn ($5.8bn) licence fee, it emerged on Friday.

Part of the BBC’s argument against giving any of its funding to other broadcasters – an idea the government outlined in last month’s Digital Britain white paper – was that the licence fee had never before been split up.
