Ex-Amaranth trader fights US regulator

Brian Hunter, the energy trader whose wrong bets on natural gas prices led to the collapse of hedge fund Amaranth Advisors, has filed a legal action to block the US gas regulator from bringing an enforcement action against him.

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, which regulates sales of natural gas, and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, the main futures industry regulator, have been probing trading activity at Amaranth since its collapse last September.
