Ford presses for Volvo sale despite conditions

Ford Motor has begun approaching potential buyers of Volvo as the Detroit carmaker explores a sale in spite of punishing business conditions facing the global auto industry this year.

The US group, through its bankers, is contacting western, Chinese and other Asian car companies, Swedish funds and private-equity investors to gauge their interest, according to two people close to the process.
