US general predicts pull-out from Iraq

The top US commander in Iraq has predicted that the US-led coalition could start withdrawing troops early next year if political progress remained on track and the insurgency did not escalate.

General George Casey said the US could make fairly substantial reductions after the referendum on a new constitution scheduled for October and the election of a new leader in December.
