Fire puts brakes on Eurotunnel growth

The fire in the Channel tunnel cost Groupe Eurotunnel €22m in lost revenue in the third quarter after service disruptions checked strong growth in truck traffic and Eurostar passenger numbers.

But the tunnel operator insisted insurance would cover nearly all the shortfall following the September 11 fire that gutted a train full of trucks, up to a total of €900m ($1,290m).
