French probe of EC officials over Pechiney

France's stock market regulator is investigating whether European Commission officials could have been linked to insider dealing ahead of Alcan's €4bn bid for Pechiney in 2003.

Following a two-year investigation, the regulator this week delivered its current findings to the French public prosecutor's office describing unusual trading in Pechiney shares after the Canadian company, before it announced its hostile bid, sounded out EU officials about possible competition obstacles to its offer.
