French brawn and UK brains lead way

Gordon Brown’s brain and Nicolas Sarkozy’s brawn combined to shake up Europe this weekend, with eurozone governments agree­ing to follow Britain with a co-ordinated and systematic bank rescue plan.

The British prime minister and the French president won plaudits for their roles in Sunday’s historic agreement, even if it was last week’s dramatic plunge in the markets that forced the Europeans to come together.
