Financials hit hard amid heavy falls

US equities fell for a second consecutive week, bruised by weak economic data, the falling dollar, soaring commodity prices and renewed concerns about the health of global credit markets.

The benchmark S&P 500 index fell 2.8 per cent on the week to 1,293.37, the lowest close in 19 months.
