Royal Society to fund businesses

The Royal Society is to move into business funding for the first time in its 350-year history.

The society, Britain’s national academy of sciences, will announce on Thursday night the creation of an Enterprise Fund to put money into early-stage companies. The society says it sees “a major opportunity to put its expertise and reputation behind another core aspect of science, the application of science”.
