Game Group benefits from demise of rivals

Video gaming’s growth in popularity as a family pastime helped Game Group defy the gloom on the high street and the retail chain lifted sales and profits guidance after a successful Christmas.

The company benefited as other retailers were forced out of business in the festive period. Woolworths and Zavvi had accounted for about 10 per cent of the UK games market.
