Nielsen widens Chinese ratings to rural viewers

AGB Nielsen Media Research has begun a US$35m effort to include rural viewers from China’s most populous regions in its ratings for the country’s television market.

The television audience measurement company is a joint venture of WPP, the global advertising group, and VNU, the Dutch media conglomerate set to be bought by a private equity consortium for €7.6bn ($9.6bn).
