Austria's eurosceptics flex their muscles

Austria could turn increasingly hostile to the European Union if, as is likely, the radically anti-immigrant and eurosceptic Freedom party is the beneficiary of the snap elections due after this month's collapse of the grand coalition government.

Opinion polls give the Freedom party 20 per cent of the vote, almost double its showing two years ago and a reflection of the powerful anti-Brussels rhetoric of Heinz-Christian Strache, its firebrand leader.
