Sprint in U-turn on $3bn cash call

Sprint Nextel, the struggling US mobile phone network operator, performed a quick about-face yesterday and cancelled an unpopular $3bn convertible offering a day after announcing it.

The company, which announced the cash call on Wednesday along with its second-quarter financial results, said in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing that it had decided "to cancel the offering because the terms being offered were not economically attractive due to unfavourable market conditions".
