October 2 1992 Riot at overcrowded and chaotic Carandiru prison, São Paulo. Police storm the cell blocks and 111 inmates are killed

1993 PCC founded at Taubaté prison to agitate for better conditions for inmates. It aims to recruit members from all prisons in São Paulo state. Members pay monthly dues and receive legal support, help for family while in prison and support for criminal activities
