Spain’s awkward relationship with its Basque-speaking provinces surfaced in two unconnected ways on Monday, as political tensions rise ahead of a general election on March 9.
In Madrid, the Spanish government said Basque regional authorities had rejected free copies of Al Gore’s global warming documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, meant for distribution in state schools, because the film had not been translated into Euskerra, the Basque language.
