The edible apple might have originated in the forests of the Dzungarian Alatau in Kazakhstan

We are all eating this season’s apples or busily picking up the last of the windfalls below our trees. As I filled a basket with worm-free cooking fruits as big as tennis balls off a tree without a name, I wondered where on earth the edible apple originated.
