Ex-Lloyds chairman eyes banking ventures

Sir Brian Pitman, the former chairman of Lloyds Bank, is considering backing a number of new banking ventures, as entrepreneurs queue up to try their hand at challenging the dominance of the Big Four banks.

Sir Brian, 77, revered by many in the City as the most accomplished retail banker of his generation, has held talks with several groups, including the Panmure Gordon-backed initiative that will launch a bank targeting affluent and business customers.
