Blair seeks gay adoption compromise

Tony Blair is still seeking a compromise over a law banning discrimination against gay couples wishing to adopt a child, following claims he had caved into a cabinet revolt against an exemption for Catholic adoption agencies.

But the prime minister has had to accept a transition period for Catholic agencies unwilling to work with gay parents after ministers and MPs lined up against an opt-out from the law on grounds of faith. Mr Blair will outline a solution next week.
