Spanish brandy cash call ruffles regulator

A corporate cash call backed by expensive brandy has caught the eye of Spanish securities regulators, invited professorial comment and provided further proof that conventional financing is hard to come by these days.

The strange case flared up this week around advertisements by a conglomerate owned by the Ruiz-Mateos family of Spain for an issue of one-year promissory notes needed to finance acquisitions.
